The Department of Pediatrics, Gastroenterology has an exciting opportunity for a Full-Time Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to work in Miami Dade County.
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) administers nursing care, under the supervision of a registered nurse, and ensures the health, comfort, and safety of patients. The incumbent provides quality care to designated patients and takes on various responsibilities, such as participating in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care, as well as cooperating with the members of the nursing and medical staff and other hospital departments.
Core Responsibilities:
Collects patient assessment data, notifies appropriate nurse of actual or potential problems, and needs on an ongoing basis.
Records patient information concisely, accurately, and completely.
Administers medications and performs treatments and procedures for all patients as assigned.
Assists with preparation of patient materials or correspondence that RNs, ARNPs, or MDs utilize to communicate with organizations within or outside the University.
Assists in preoperative and postoperative health teaching for patients and families.
Shares responsibility for the planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care plans.
Participates in team conferences, sharing knowledge, information, and ideas with team members.
Performs more-complex nursing activities as competence increases.
Communicates frequently with team leader regarding patients’ physical and mental conditions.
Adheres to University and unit-level policies, procedures, and safeguards University assets.
Department Specific Functions:
Responsible for patient triage, calling pharmacy and/or electronically filling prescription refills.
Obtaining lab results, medical records
Relates effectively with other staff for continuity of care.
Prior Authorizations for medication and Infusion treatments.
Participates in all phases of education and maintenance of records
Upkeeps credentials, license and BLS.
Schedule, reschedule and confirm Infusion appointments.
Assist attendings with completion of school notes, letters of medical necessity, FMLA forms and any other documents necessary for continuation of care.
Assist with phone calls; communicate with patient’s parents results of labs and studies.
Shares responsibility for the planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care plans and nursing care.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent
Valid State of Florida LPN license
BLS from American Heart Association only
Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
